The Swimming poll complex of Maliyadeva College was opened by the President of Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka Mr. Maithripala Sirisena on 24th July 2016.
The President who arrived in the College was welcomed with respect and honor by the School Cadet Team. He declared open the 25 meters long swimming pool with 8 strips, and also the new building for old boys.
Mr. Sarath Bandara, a teacher of the school made a drawing of the President at that time and presented it to him. The Principal of the school, Yapa Gamini Thilakarathne presented a souvenir to the President at this occasion.
The old boys of the school offered Rs. 100000.00 for the Kidney Fund.
Minister of Sports Dayasiri Jayasekara, Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, Governor of the Vayamba Province Amara Piyaseeli, Chief Minister of Vayamba Province Dharmasiri Dasanayake, Director General of the National Cadet Corps Major General L. W. C. B. B. Rajaguru, President of the Old Boys’ Association and the President of the Vayamba Provincial Council Lakshman Wendaruwa and the Provincial Minister of Education Sandya Rajapaksha were among those participated in this event.
